In Panama, the hatching season for sea turtles typically occurs between April and September. During this period, thousands of sea turtles make their way to various beaches along Panama’s coastline to lay their eggs.
Today we had our second group at the beach club make their way to the ocean. There are seven turtle species in the world, in Panama is home to 5 of those species. The best time to witness these events is from May to November, with the highest activity in July and August. The hatching process begins when the turtles dig holes in the sand to lay their eggs, and after about 60 days, the newborn turtles emerge.
Although the last group were known to be in the sand and protected with netting until they emerged. This group emerged in the early morning unannounced. Another turtle also laid more eggs last night. Their location is also now protected with netting awaiting their hatching. Neighbours, hotel staff/guests, and agency workers helped ensuring that these 88 made it to the ocean.
